2002 xjr hood stuck
2002 XJR can't get the hood open, pass side releases but haven't been able to release the drivers side.
This all started when I had a friends son (17yo) help me work on the car, he put the floor jack under the car and started to raise the car.
I determined later the jack was on the oil pan. What it did was to raise the engine and the front of the hood, I saw the hood raise almost 2in above the fenders. Everything went back in its proper location when jack was released, I just
cannot open the hood diver side latch isn't releasing.
checked the cable and it may be broken as there is a lot of slack at the release handle. I am unable to put my had thru the access hole on the firewall, I have a 2nd 2002 XJR and I tried to operate the latch by pushing it from the front. That works so I
drilled a hole on inner fender and I can touch the latch and with screw driver can operate it but sill not working,
Maybe the post on the hood is bent? Any ideas on what I should do?

If the post itself is not bent, you don't need to replace it. It is possible that the area of the hood where the post screws-in is deformed and the post is now sitting a bit angled longitudinally towards the rear of the car (towards the windscreen). Compare the angle of the affected post with the angle of the good one on the other side and bring it to the same angle. With the post screwed-in (without the spring and washer), you can probably force it back, with a piece of suitable pipe, to the correct position.
In any case, lower slowly the hood and watch where the conical head and the spring loaded washer of the post are in relation to the hole. They should be centered to the hole.
