Help fellas, can anyone tell me when in 2001 jaguar started installing steel liners and metal chain tensioner’s?

 

Improved secondary timing chain tensioners were installed in the AJ-V8 in mid 2001. The best way to determine what was originally installed is to check by engine number.stamped on the front upper part of the cylinder block.

The earlier Nikasil treated blocks are actually more durable than the later steel sleeved blocks if the correct fuel is used. The engine number can also be used to determine if the engine is fitted with steel cylinder liners.

 

Thank you, the 10 digit number on the side of the engine is 0107070636 as I understand the 01 is the year 07 the month 09 the day, how do I determine the rest and all gasoline in the states contain’s alcohol so how do use correct fuel?

The main cause of Nikasil failure was due to excessive sulphur in the fuel. If the engine has a Nikasil treated block and is still running, there should be no issue as fuel sulphur was reduced years ago in most countries.
