2003 XJR blown engine ???
so took the car today for a ride today on 407 highway north of Toronto...
was hitting speeds of over 200 kph ( 120 mph) when suddenly smoke started filling up the cabin...
I immediately got off the highway and smoke was pouring out the engine bay and exhaust.
I turned off the car and opened the hood to see what was happening and two guys pulled over to " help " one was saying he was a mechanic and knows a lot about Jaguars and proceeded to tell me one of my pistons rods was done and engine was blown.
He offered for me to drive the car to his shop where he would offer to exchange my car for his x type for a few thousand dollars on my part.
He went on to explain to me that XJRs had lots of issues because they are supercharged and are problem cars.... bla bla bla
So of course I decided to have the car towed to my mechanic who specialises in Jaguars but they are only open on Tuesday ...
soo any ideas?
1: No codes appear on OBD reader no red or amber warning lights... ???
2: Engine ran fine when it first started smoking ...I started it after pulling over and now it stumbles and turns rough but still no codes.
3: oil seems to be leaking from front right portion of engine bay but I cant locate exact source.
4: smoke coming from exhaust and front right portion of engine when running.
5: oil is present inside engine breather tube ( tube from engine to air intake past air filter)
6: oil is present on some parts of engine and on hood at front right of engine bay
7: distinct smell of burnt
So blown head gasket ? worse ?

Naturally you will be thinking the worst - but wait and see - your XJR is a later model that has had the major bugs ironed out. 120 MPH is not a strain for these cars at all, so should not have blown your engine - you'll be revving faster than that giving it the beans up an on-ramp.
If it was a piston rod as Mr Helpful on the highway suggested, then it would not turn over and would be loud - very loud. His suggestion to PX for an X-type with cash his way is curious - I wouldn't swap my XJRs car mats for an X-type!
Hopefully you will find no more than a head gasket - and possibly something less expensive. Maybe just an oil leak from rocker cover or filter/cooler area and the oil is burning off the hot engine and exhaust manifold?
Good luck and try not to speculate about it between now and Tuesday as that will make not a jot of difference to the outcome.
