2005 XJ8L
Good afternoon folks:
I am new to the forum. I am in the process of buying a 2005 XJ8L with 90,000 miles and in pristine condition inside and out, I have not driven the car for it is out of state. Before I shell out my $$ I would like to hear from the members some thoughts pro/con this model. I asked the seller and there is a clean carfax 0 accidents and no major problems. I would be the 4th owner . He has no access to previous service maintenance.
The asking price is $14K .
My concern is the service maintenance especially timing chains could be a deadly issue. I did my Range Rover last year and it was $5K. This being a car for the wife and not a daily drive but an occasional cruiser for enjoyment. She is not contemplating extensive mileage on this car.
I am OCD about preventive maintenance and I will keep a keen eye on it.
Any input will be greatly appreciated
Sincerely
Lou (Basque1)

Being a 2005, you have an X350, not an X308.
By this time, timing chain tensioners were no longer an issue, personally I wouldn't buy a vehicle with more than 2 owners (me being the 3rd). Just personal preference. If you have the VIN you can look it up on the MyCarfax app and see the service records.

+1 on the x350, but keep this in mind, CARFAX is only good if they report an incident/accident. It never hurts to pay someone $30, or whatever the charge (if any), to do a once over, if your really set on getting the vehicle. That $30 could save you thousands down the road and a peace of mind knowing the wife is safe.
