2006 VDP sudden smoke, engine light and Limited Performance
After topping off 1 quart of engine oil I drove for a few miles without the filler cap. After restarting, there was quite a bit of gray exhaust smoke on startup and after a short while the engine light came on. Much smoke on the next startup and then huge smoke while driving, with Limited Performance message coming on..
At that point I noticed and closed the filler cap, dis- and reconnected the battery and drove home without any further warning lights or smoke. Now engine light and smoke are back again on startup . . . top condition engine with 55k miles.
Anybody with this experience? Thanks for your feedback or suggestions.

Moderators.... help please.
Welcome to the forum Thierry, I am afraid that this
isn't the right section for your model, this is for
'98-03 XJs.
I am afraid I can't think of a solution to your problem,
so once one of our forum's moderators moves this
to the appropriate section, you can gain model-specific
insights.
A great place to get started is here:

but until you get your problem solved, welcome to the
forum.
Cheers,
Ian

It could be an S-type or an XJ VDP at 2006 so I can't help.
Please follow Ian's link
