Yes, somehow they look "just right" on the car, "in my personal opinion". Please no flames.

That mini really makes someone think twice about current modifications and service. No computers, no emissions equipment, everything out in the open. If you understood SU/Stromberg/Weber carburetors, you were good to go.

WHat made you tackle the job at this point? How many miles do you have on your 99?

BTW, it's gorgeous.

The job probably was unnecessary at this point. The tensioners certainly would have make it for a long time w/o failing.
The car just had 106k Kilometers (~65k Miles) and ther engine was running perfect w/o any strange sound.

But I've seen, read, and heard so many stories of the secondary tensioners failing that I didn't want to risk my engine. Some say, don't care about the tensioners until you hear a rattle from the front-end at start up. Some say it's better to be safe than sorry and change them.

In the end, the decision (for me) was easy as I was able to do that job by myself. The parts have been less than 300$ and after I changed the tensioners there indeed is some kind of peace of mind. No more intense listening of the engine sound at any start-up. No more prayer before you turn the key...

You make an excellent point. I'm giving serious consideration to a 99 XJ with 72K on the clock. New tranny was just installed by the previous owner, so I'm thinking that within 30 days of purchase I need to do the tensioners.

David, have you seen the p.v.d. versions being made of the leaper, in either black chrome or matt - here's a smaller sized one in matt,

Nice, thanks for the link!
Meanwhile I put that cat back on.
Freshly painted in 2pack high glossy jet black...

*edit*
If you are wondering about the strange round base plate...
Over here we have strict safety regulations with these sort of things.
The only TUV-certified leaper is a spring loaded swivel one like mine.
When you hit a pedestrian -at least - the leaper would not hurt him as it swivels to minimize the impact.
If it makes sense? I doubt it. But with the fixed leapers we would fail the bi-yearly TUV inspection (similar to your MOT)

We have the same law about fixed emblems, only classic and vintage are outside of it.
The one in the link I sent is spring loaded, all UK ones are - have a look at my rare leaper post for something very special.....
