4.0 and 4.2 superchargers
Hi all,
looking to change my supercharger,as I'm getting noise from the rotors.
What is the difference between the 4.0 litre and 4.2 litre superchargers?
I am having trouble sourcing a 4.0 litre one, so was toying with getting the 4.2 if they fit?
cheers
Pete.
update. Ignore this. found info I needed

Instead of going down this rabbit hole trying to fit a later Eaton, I would strongly suggest that you change out that nylon coupler and get a genuine Eaton spring loaded coupler. eBay and superchargersonline.com. That will take care of the rotor rattle. That was the best move I’ve done. I rebuilt my charger with a nylon coupler as well and had the rattle badly. Then after some more investigation, I took a chance and took it all back apart and installed the spring coupler and now no more noise.

Interesting about the coupler
I think it is still a must to upgrade to the gen v but the couple issue I hadn't heard about until now. So time will tell.
I would love to do a TVS conversion, but at $2000 for a base housing with integrated bypass from harrop is a little bit too much for a £3-5000 vehicle.
if anyone with the skills would like to sponsor a project, obviously I would be up for a meeting😎
Thankyou for all your knowledge.
regards
Pete

Think of it this way Peter, if you wanted to upgrade your motor mounts because they were collapsed with new urethane motor mounts, you’d have a much more pronounced vibration because urethane is a much more rigid substance than rubber. It’s the same thing with the nylon coupler. However, the factory Eaton coupler isn’t rubber but spring loaded to damper the shock/vibration.
The older Eaton chargers like our factory ones, they have straight cut rotor gears and hence have a more pronounced whine that a lot of people like. The later Eatons have helical cut rotor gears that doesn’t have that more pronounced whine. I have only heard that the later Eatons have a slightly more efficient charger. With that being said, in my opinion it’s just not worth it.
