Default 76.82.19---- or how to remove the sunroof trim???

Please don't point me to JTIS as I will slap you with a wet noodle.

I did a search and dug through JTIS and nothing specifically on how to yank the trim out.

My sunroof seems stuck. I cant get it to lift and cant get it to fully close now that I messed with it.

You don't have a wet noodle long enough.

What you need to find is the pdf's posted by Motorcarman/Bob Gauff.

Before you remove the trim, you are going to have to be able to tilt it up *and* slide it back. First to remove the trim panel and second to work on the rails. Then again, if it is timing, then all the work revolves around the motor mechanism in front and does not involve the sunroof trim.

That means you are going to have to retime the mechanism and one of his pdf's explains the whole procedure.

So ... you can avoid JTIS, but you will have to search instead.

If you actually remove the weatherseal, you will need a special crimping tool to install a fresh one. Also shown in one of those pdf's.

Are you aware of the manual override? See owners' manual for that one. No JTIS needed.

ok Guys, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I got the sunroof moving and almost-working.

One of the clips towards the back of the sunroof popped off and was jamming the mechanism. I got that corrected and I proceeded with the timing of the mechanism and seems like that is ok now too.

However when I Tilt the sunroof it only comes up to give me a 1cm gap in the back and I can't even slide back the trim piece. What should I look for?

ok, so I messed with it a bit more. Took the roof panel off, and moved it back and forth like 40 times.

The sliding portion is ok, but the tilt is busted. I can tell that the plastic is peeling from metal on the slider parts. I cleaned off all the debris and figured it out that the passenger side is way worse although they both look like crap, poorly designed crap. It also looks like it was already replaced once. I figured it out that if I press on the back passenger corner of the roof while pressing the button I can get it to tilt up, so I was able to reassemble the trim. What a PITA.

I would be happy to fix it but at $348 a side I can live with no tilt or hand assisted tilt.

Hey, the Saab 900 had a manual sunroof. No motor to fail.

In 1987, glass moonroofs from the same company that manufactured the Jaguar sunroof were installed in the Rover Sterling 825s. Never had a problem in 12 or so years. Why Jaguar didn't go with the glass unit is a mystery. Especially as it leaves more headroom.

As for your remaining droop, look at the little raise lever on the problem side. Sometimes it pops out and leaves a droop. Motorcarman has posted on how to *carefully* give the *cast* metal piece a little tweak.

Hi adam699
Have you looked at this Sunroof panel sagging thread?:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...sagging-36245/

Go to post# 8 - XJRJeff has instructions and photos of how to remove the large roof panel and the smaller panel.
