Default 98 jaguar xj8

Hi coming to the best jaguar techs once again. You guys helped me out a lot with last issue(fuel pump replacement). So I broke my coolant level sensor while I was checking the level. It took me about a month to get another sensor but I made sure the coolant level was full. I connect the new coolant sensor and the "the low coolant level" clears immediately. She is still ruining strong in the meantime. About a week later I get an oil change at walmart and choose their Quaker State oil brand weight 5w30( the weight I've been using since I've had my car). I put in my own air filter that I purchased from rock auto. I check my oil level and one side is higher than the other. The lower side is at the full mark and the higher side is about a quart above the full mark. A couple days later I noticed my car was still hot after sitting for a few hours.

I've moved your post from General Tech Help to X308 forum. This is the place for tech posts about your model.

Forgive my ignorance, but how did you check your oil level on both "sides"?

Also, these cars are quite easy to change the oil on, so next time it might be worth the go yourself! Walmart has great prices on Oil, and despite not being on the list here:

https://mobiloil.com/en/promotion/mobil-promotions

It is eligible for the $12 per 5qt Jug of Mobil 1. They have that promotion about every 3ish months, and I do it each time, since 3 of my cars use 8+ quarts of oil (and the A8 specs 0W40 synthetic). I've always bought at Walmart and they've always sent the rebate check. If you buy the Mobil 1 Full Synthetic or Full Synthetic High Mileage, you're eligible and are $25-27 per jug pre-rebate and $13-15 per jug after rebate. I buy Wix filters rebadged as Napa Gold for $5-8.

So really $50-60 in parts with no rebate for top notch stuff! Every 5th oil change is cheaper since you have 4x2qts left over each change lol.

These engines heat up extremely quick and stay warm for a very long time. I parked my car yesterday afternoon (around 2 pm) and went out around 7 pm... The engine bay was still hot, the temperature gauge was not much below the "normal" section...

I am not sure how to check the oil on both sides.

If the oil level rises and the water level is decreasing and the oil is turning brown. You
are getting water into the oil. Is this what is happening?

Are you describing how you see the oil level on one side or edge of the dipstick vs. on the other side or edge of the dipstick, all from just one pull of the dipstick?

If so, make sure to wait a while after you shut the engine off before checking level; then pull the dipstick, wipe it off thoroughly, then insert and remove again to check... If too soon since the engine has run there can be oil splashed up into the sides of the dipstick tube, which can then rub off on portions of the stick - any splash up can hang on the stick for a long time, so you must wipe it once and re-insert - overlooking either of these can make reading the true level difficult.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! I'm referring to the oil on the dipstick. I checked the oil dipstick each time I drove over the weekend and it's showing full. I guess I'm overreacting because the guy at Walmart said they only put in 6.5 qts of oil. I know my car holds 8 qts of oil but according to my oil dipstick, the oil pan is full. I always get conventional oil changes at valvoline every 3000 miles. However I went about 5000 between oil changes this time because I chose their synthetic oil. My car has over 250,000 miles so I'm thinking about going full synthetic
