98 VDP
Hi,
I'm new to the forum so this is my first post. My wife and I purchased a 98 VDP and thought we got a real good deal just a few things and the car would be a real keeper. First the sliding roof leaks and won't function, just a little movement. Next the power steering pump is leaking fluid all over I'm not sure why. And now our battery has gone dead over the winter and I can't get into the trunk since the manual lock is corroded and won't work. I tried to use one of those instant start chargers that plug into the accessory out let but I can't get it to take any voltage that would allow me to open the trunk. I read about a power point under the hood but I can't seem to locate it and was told by our local Jaguar dealer not all vehicles have them and I may need to have it towed to the dealership and have them break into the trunk. Isn't there a way to get into the trunk with out a tow to the dealer and several hundred dollars spent just to open the trunk lid??

RE: 98 VDP
Hi dixter,
I'm not even going to ask about the screen name. That's in your hands.
Here's how to open your trunk:
Open the hood.
On the driver's side inner fender, up high, there are two black rectangular fuseboxes. The forward one is larger, and a thick black cable connect the two of them. On each end of the cable is a black rubber boot. Beneath each boot is a stud with a nut on it.On either stud iswhere we will connect battery positive. Hook a jumper wire, or your positive battery jumper cable, onto either stud.
Battery negative is anyplace you can attach your negative jumper wire or jumper cable that will give you a good ground. I use a small jumper wire to the ground stud on the chassis railbehind the left headlamps. Pick anyplace you like, so long as it is steel or aluminum and not painted. Jump from another battery (or a charger), positive to the fusebox stud, negative to your ground point. If you have a good ground connection, the interior lights will come on when you open the door. And the trunk release button will work.
The funniest part is that the relay for the trunk release motor is in...the trunk. If it fails, then you have to get physical.
The sunroof is another story: that's even a pain for a techster, never mind a di...well, you know.

RE: Boot entry
Others have had success with opening boot by removing rear license plate, poking long, thin screwdriver through the existing hole (rubber inside of hole pushes out of way readily), and tripping the latch arm. I personally have not had to dick around (!) with this method, but may be worth a try.
Sounds like your VDP has been resting for a prolonged time - battery terminals may be corroded, or battery itself is terminal...
