The problem with testing a thermostat in a pan is that it opens over a temperature range. I compared the one that gave me an operating temp of 175-185 with the one that operates at 190-195, and could hardly see a difference. They both begin opening at a little over 170.
If I were back in a chemistry lab with a digital thermometer and heating system with more control than my stove, I could probably make more accurate observations. But even there, a small change in the opening results in a large change in the flow rate, so it's hard to quantify.

It would also more than likely involve surgery to remove said part from my anatomy.

You are probably right, for most of us. But down in North Carolina, in the Colonies, there are enumerable cases of the bathtubs being used for rebuilding transmissions . . . some pots are also available for runoff from the stills . . . priorities.
Mine starts opening around 180F, and is fully open by 195 (from the feel of the upper radiator hose) and the fan begins to run at about 205 to drop it back to 195 - 198. IAT seems to have almost no effect. It will have an effect on starter speed if it gets cold enough due to viscosity of oil and voltage drop . . .

Well got the car back. It'll get to half way and when I drive it still drops with oem jag thermostat. But is more than a quarter now. Just a little over and doesn't go lower as I can tell. Blows hot air and my guy said temp is only getting to a constant 170°. He has no idea. He thinks that coolant somewhere in the system is getting past where it should be blocked but can't pinpoint it. So I have the car now. Drove it a good 30 miles today with hot heat and over a quarter in temp. Looks like I'm stumped on this. If anyone has any suggestions. Welsh told me an air pocket but this guy assures me it isn't air in the system
