Default 98 XJ8 VP has lost some power?

I have a 1998 Vanden Plas that while running reasonably well and smooth, does seem to have a little less power as of late. No codes, no noises, no leaks? Upper timing chain tensioners replaced at 89,000, 128k on the clock now. Have been running in sport mode lately. Thanks, Mike

It sounds like the throttle cable is stretched and needs adjusting. You can check it for slack by pulling on it with your finger and see how musch play you have. The cable is held to the throttle body with a tie-wrap. You cut it off and lift the retainer out of the slot and rotate it to remove the slack. Place it back in the slot and install a new tie-wrap.

Well that would sure be nice and easy! Thanks avern1, I will check that out tomorrow provided Hurricane Hermine doesn't dump to much rain on us in central Florida.

Thank again, Mike.

This hurricane woke me up about an hour ago so I'm here to assist!

First thing I'd check is the air filter. Next I'd remove the air intake tube and check it thoroughly for any deterioration or cracks. These cracks sometimes don't show themselves unless under load which could also lead to bad engine mounts. While the intake tube is off, use compressed air to blow inside the MAF sensor. These sensors aren't prone to getting dirty like the 99' on up MY but it wouldn't do any harm to clean it up while you're there.

It's trying to persuade you to add an XJR to the garage
