98 XJR serp belt stopped, no PS, engine ok
Just drove back from carwash, all fine for 2-3 miles at 30-40mph. Suddenly started experiencing engine power loss, 'battery not charging', power steering loss, allintermittently. Got home just as all power steering was lost. Popped the bonnet while engine running, noted that serpentine belt not moving. Shut engine off, cooling fan stayed on. Manually rotated serpentine belt okay. Started engine again fine, but no power steering and 'battery not charging' code stayed on.
Had S belt ant timing belt replaced with new tensioner last August. Car has run okay, but PS was 'heavier' than before work in August 07.
Any ideas? No unusual noises. Engine starts and runs fine. Sensor? Computer?
Thanks!

Disconnect battery for 5 minutes and restart. See if message goes out. If you had at the carwash, sometimes things get wet. Also - dont let them put that silicone crap on the engine. Seen many times where they will screw up sensors because of that crap getting in them.

Thanks for the quick reply. Couldn't get back to the Jag until today. Tried the battery disconnect you suggested but no change. Another poster thought the belt popped off, but that was the first thing I checked. It's on correctly, tensioned correctly and not frozen/seized. Still get the 'Battery not charging' message on the dash readout. Checked fuses, all good. Battery still fully charged, engine starts right up, but belt not turning so no PS, alternator, water pump, superchager, etc. Motor runs fine at low RPM but cannot get to higher rates.
Unless there's something else I can check, my Baby goes to the mechanic on a flatbed next. Argh! Any ideas?
