Repeat after me. "I will never throw out the old gaskets till the car is running again"

There are two EGR valve gaskets offered for my car.
NCA4771BE - non metal one
and
AJ88559 - metal one

Because I threw out the old gasket I do not know what one my car takes. I have found this site which shows information as to which go on which cars but it does not make sense when I match it to my VIN or engine code.

If it helps, my XJR is only a couple months newer, engine #980701, VIN 851012, and it came with paper gaskets on all 3 EGR flanges.
BTW when I took the EGR valve off the throttle body it was badly plugged up, well worth cleaning out.

 

I wouldn't sweat it since the flanges look the same!

 

Yes the flange on the EGR valve is the same AJ82196 across all VINs but they list two Exhaust gas recirculation pipes for the car AJ82758 and AJ86857.
