Question 98 XJR X308 broken cup holder

My cup-holder broke where the pin connects to the socket. The front part broke off the socket. I have shot a youtube video of this breakage:

Is there anyone that sells replacement parts for repairing this? Did they always make them out of plastic. I would have thought this would have been metal. Is there anyone making a stronger replacement part?

This one mentions a later type with improved metal hinges.

try ebay.co.uk too...you'll find a lot more there than the ebay.com

All the pictures from that thread are gone. Does anyone have any of the pictures or description of the repair?

FWIW, I repaired mine with a little JB Weld to "reconstruct" the socket for the little pin. I applied a bit of grease to the pin so the JB Weld wouldn't stick to the pin allowing it to freely move once the JB hardened. Did this with the armrest in the up position and the cupholder closed.

The metal hinge cupholder kits (2000MY onward) have hinges that will interfere with the trim piece. You can install them but the trim cover will bulge where the hinges are located. I guess the parts can be trimmed and mated?????
