99 X308 Instument Cluster Lighing

How are the instruments lighted? I have a couple of dark areas as if bulbs are burned out.
Looking at Figure 10.2 Dimmer Controlled Lighting, in the XJ Series Sedan 1999 Electrical Guide the Instrument Pack does not indicate any bulbs (circle with an X inside). So what lights the gauges? Is it fiber optics? LEDs?

There are small bulbs. You have to take the cluster out to replace them, it's not a difficult job.

I followed the advice in this thread. I have attached some photos that show the details of changing the bulbs. I used 3.4 watt 194LL bulbs from Autozone. I had to use pliers to turn the bulb holders CCW to remove the holder. Bulb just presses in. Be careful not to crush the bulb holder with the pliers. I could not get enough grip to turn the holder with just my fingers.
