'99 XJ8 - fuel in rail, spark at plug, no start...
Hello fellow forum - at my wits end here...
Story so far.
Jag decided not to start just before Christmas...
Too cold out here in Sweden to play on it outside so I left it.
Now through spring I've tried all my knowledge and threads on here...
Firstly - thought washed bores, it's done it before (that time I oiled it up and it ran again).
But not this time.
Fuel pressure was low in the rail (a dribble) so I started at the tank and worked forward, pump runs, changed filter, even replaced the throttle body.
No change. Sounds odd turning over, like there's no compression - you don't hear a yug yug yug like a good ol v8, just a continuous loud whirring - but I've the plugs out and looked in while the Mrs turned the key and everything is moving...
I've had the plugs out a few times, and this last time all plugs with one exception (that one was oily) were dry?!?!
Back to fuel rail - good squirt out of there...
Tried the foot flat to the floor then letting it out - but now the battery is needing a charge...
Any ideas from you guys would be much appreciated - thanks. Steve

... answering my own thread...
I guess I need to find out what is stopping the injectors from working...
Maybe the crank position sensor or some timing sensor...
Back to the books for a bit - also need to plug in the obd2 thing - that always reads like a mix between Klingon & Cardassian... Bought the thing over here in Sweden and it won't load the Jag codes properly... another purchase I need to make
An thoughts on crank position sensor checks? Or other timing sensor checks?
Thanks again / steve

For a severely washed bore I have been know to use a mix of engine oil and LUCAS engine treatment or STP or Restore. Something thick and 'gooey' poured into the bore through the spark plug holes to keep the rings coated.
You could even use some gear oil. Just crank it over a few times with the plugs out to prevent 'hydrolocking'.
