i have a 99 xj8 with 130,000 miles was driving in town it started hesitating when accelerating then suddenly started acting ok went to work, came out it started but was a hard start had to turn over for a bit . drove to a friends house and stayed a couple of hours. came out it would'nt start, turned over like it had no compession. left car there came back next day tried to start but would'nt turn over like it was locked up.had it towed to a garage where a man who is supposed to be experienced in jaguars looked at it and told me that he was able to turn the motor about half a turn in either direction with a bar on the crank bolt. in his opinion he says he believes a rod cap has come off. any comments?

 

sounds like chain broke.. causing intake or exhaust valve to be sitting on th episton not allowing it to turn.. will have to take the cam covers off for a further investigation.. to see if chains snapped
