Default '99 XJ8 Rear Shock Replacement

I am in the process of replacing the rear shocks on my Jag. My question is: How do I access the nuts/bolts at the top of the shocks to remove? I don't see access through the trunk. Does the rear seat need to be removed? Thank you!

Thank you, King Charles. The links you provided were very descriptive and helpful. I will tackle the problem shortly.

Only issue I ran into is that the sleeve in the lower shock mount will weld itself to the bolt.

The bolt will then spin in the mount and the two shall never come loose.

I heated, ground through the shock eye into the sleeve along its length. Still not loose.

Eventually used a metal cutting sawzall and went across bolt at each side of the shock eye.

Had to get a new bolt.

Other than that a piece of cake.

Also you don't have to get the whole shock assembly out as a unit. You just need to get to the hardware on top to R&R the upper shock bolt.

Ric in RVA - Just to confirm that I had the exact same problem with the lower bolt welding itself to the sleeve. I had minimal success using torch heat. My impact wrench barely nudged the bolt. Since I did not have a bunch of room to work under the car, I ended up paying to have the bolt extracted. Sheesh... The opposite side was a piece of cake. Go figure. Thank you for your comments.

I bet that happens a bunch with the dissimilar metals they are using. Bet it rides nice now!
