Hello,
I have a 99' XJ8 with 67k on it. I recently was in a situation where I had to floor it for acceleration, and then brake quickly. Well, the acceleration was excellent! However, when I came to a stop, the engine stalled. It would not re-start for quite some time (I'm guessing it was flooded). I actually drained the bettery trying to re-start. Then, when it re-started, I had to keep it above 1000 RPM, or it would stall out again and would take a while to re-start. Also, while running, it has a ticking sound now, almost a knocking noise. I let it sit overnight, and it started right up. I let it idle for a while, and other than the ticking/knocking noise, it was OK. Until I tried to put it in gear, when it stalled out again. This has started this whole cycle over again. I have left it with the battery disconnected over night, and the battery on a charger to ensure a full charge over night. Any suggestions guys?

First thing you can do is read up, that info is all over this site, as that's what most of the problems are for peeps. If you read, you will save a lot of money, time, and stress.
Sorry dude either your throttle body is dirty or has mismatched TPS pins (nickle to gold) like mine was and it stalls every once in a while, andor you're about to experience a tensioner brake/possible chain break. That ticking is the timing chain (probably secondary) on the rotation. My old 98 did the same thing before I did the tensioner job,it wouldn't even start over a lot of times, when it does that you should NOT try to restart it,but hey I did! hah.. Goodluck
