99 XJR Engine Swap; No Start

My mechanic just finished the engine swap on my 1999 XJR; :new engine was from a 2000 XJR. New engine not starting, but seems to be getting lots of full from the injectors. I think the new engine sat for about 8-9 months before I found it. I have been over to check it out, but I know he has used plugs, engine harness, and coils from both the new engine and the old.
I can think of 2 possibilities: either the injectors are stuck open after being idle for so long or the cpu needs to be re-flashed. Any other ideas, suggestions, know-how anyone can offer before I go through the trouble of changing injectors?
I appreciate the help
Tex

Sounds like a problem worthy of the expertise of FJT - after a long and painful hiatus, he reappeared briefly last weekend! Maybe you can PM him, or entice him out again somehow....:-)

Not that I have any profound knowledge of this specific situation but there have been numerous discussions on engine swaps. One significant example is that the flex plate for an AJ26 is different from an AJ27 engine. Not compatible.
The bottom line is that the ECM must have all the sensor inputs that it is expecting. I do not think there is a reflash that will address the issues.
AVOS on another forum is the most knowledgeable engine swap poster I know.

Thanks for the help. I have posted a response and plan to continue this discussion in my dual post on the XJ forum.

99 and 2000 are the same with vvt's in the cam covers instead of the front cover like early v8. Use a noid light to see if the ecu is firing the injectors, do you have spark?. To verify correct enough injector operation you car pull the bolts from the intake, take the air intake off the throttlebody and pivot the intake up slightly. This gives you enough room to see the spray pattern from the injector. Crank it over but only enough to see the injector spray. Not enough to suddenly have the engine try to start and fire the fuel. Better yet, unplug the coils. Im assuming he has tried spraying alittle carb cleaner in the throttle to see if it tries to start?
