Default 99 xjr new purchase

Just bought a 99 xjr.
Travelled all the way from Durham to Kent. Great service history. Excellent provinance. First class dealer.

Head gasket blew on the way home!!

Now with the excellent north East Jaguars of Darlington.

Eurojag of Darlington supplying replacement engine.

What else should be done while engine is out for me to look forward to trouble free motoring?

Have the lads check the tensioners on the replacement unit, originally fitted with Sachs plastic tensioners and they crack lose tension and can destroy the engine.

Also have the trans serviced with mercedes fluid + filter (it's a merc box)

The XJR has 2 fuel pumps, have them check that both are working.

Both firms are good.

Hello Sean.
Thank you for the advice. I'd heard about the tensioners and Eurojag are replacing them with 3rd generation metal tensioners.
Good advice re trams fluid and filter. I'll talk to Tony at north East jags about that and the fuel pumps.
Much appreciated.

Enjoy the purchase. My advice is to befriend the mechanic at the dealership. You will be paying many of his bills....

Welcome to the forum Silverfox51,

Sorry to hear about your engine disaster. Between Eurojag and North East Jaguar, you've found the best independent sources of spares and service in the North East of England.

I see you have also posted a tech question about this issue in another newbie's Intro thread. When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle in a new thread of your own for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Graham
