Hi folks im struggling with my 1999 xjr8 118000miles .
I have noticed recently the tranny is holding in the gears and shifting strangely. There is no clunking or banging every now and then the amber gearbox light comes on .Car still drives fine but what should i do ???

 

Try a simple service, flush and fill and all that, but unfortunately those are the classic symptoms of imminent automatic transmission failure from worn out clutch packs, and you'll probably need a rebuild. But sometimes it's just old fluid where the friction modifiers have broken down, so a flush/fill may fix it.
