Got it back today, seems good, no additional cost. Am informed the code that eventually showed up was P0352

Hmm. None of my charts, which probably exclude non- North America models, do not show any such code number. I wonder what it is.

Fair comment, I suppose anyone willing to invest in a scanner will have a leaning to self-fixing where possible, and I agree the dealers do take the p*** on labour charges, considering the "technicians" as they're called now only get a small fraction of the charged labour rate. I drive a 2000MY Jag because I love the car for all its faults, not because I have lots of money (I spend it all on fuel and carnauba wax polish - I have no paintwork left but my pistons are shiny) ...

Avoid that site! Multiple WRONG meanings there. Get hold of jag's proper codes they're in the US forum and various other places.

The jag info also gives the list of possible causes.

I asked for the code over the phone, It is possible of course that the guy said P0352 but I still cant find it anywhere. This was not the guy who dealt with it originally, as he was out, This guy may equally have got it wrong.
The thing is, the engine warning light has come back on, sometimes accompanied by "restricted performance" and sometimes not. However, the engine light is on permanently, and occasionally flashes. If the RP is not showing the car seems to run well. We don't have weekend post so hopefully the code reader will arrive Monday. Fingers crossed !!

Yeah, good plan. Get the codes read and check back. There is a good chance you will get to the bottom of it.

Well it seems they changed from good to bandit overnight. Took the car back in to see why same code P0352 showing up again, after having changed that coil last week. Kept it overnight then called to say they had fixed it. Could collect car. Got there to find I'm being charged £212 for extra work. They said they moved #2 coil and fault moved with it. Then said had a new code come up (p0354) so they changed it and as it was a new code I would be recharged. I then told them that they were charging me for same work twice. After arguing tech was called and after secret chat, out of my sight, then explained to me that after moving coil 2 they got different code and changed it on coil #4. I then pointed out that as he had already opened the access up, changing another coil should take him 2 mins max, and not labour time to value of £146+ and that he would get a different code as last digit referred to chamber, not fault.
He agreed saying that was a mistake - crossed wires etc, and he hadn't intended for me to be charged labour, just for extra coil. (Yeh, and if I believed that, I'd believe anything!!) Knowing full well I had caught them out, they dropped labour charge and reduced bill to cost of new coil + tax only, total £58.70. I agreed just to end it all and get away.
Had I not had info from here, and hadn't learnt codes, I couldn't have argued with original charge, but quoting code numbers, and showing them I knew what these particular codes referred to they backed down.
I now have my code reader, and will not be going back there again, and Sean, have found good garage, well recommended, and happy working on Jags. Yippee, they have a new customer. Their labour rate is less than half of Jag dealer, and they charge only for parts and work done, not for fairy tales.
Have also found these coil packs, brand new, on ebay at far lower cost per coil also. One lives and learns. Hopefully this is all done with now.

Meant to say thank you to this site, and all who offered advice, would have cost me without you all. I just love this site.
