Echoharper: I tried turning the reservoir filler and while it moves a bit, it did not pop out. Does it take some force to disconnect it?
Also the brake lines look like they were routed down the front of the module with the intent to hold it in like a giant paper clip. Gently bending these to get 1 in of clearance looks like it's going to be quite difficult.
The ABS module problem being common to any model with ABS, It would probably be best for the membership to have all the information in one spot. There is a thread on the problem in the XK area which I started. I'll put a reference to this thread over there.
I had these same issues a week or so ago. Cleaning the hell out of the calipers and all sensors with Simple Green and then WD40 did the trick for me. They havent come back since
The ABS light was very annoying and I followed the recommendation here but I did need to use a dremel to cut it apart. I couldnt tell if the joints were bad but I re soldered the 2 that were recommended. Lets hope the ABS light stays off....
very nice write up. I have owned my 00 xjr since November and I have received that light / code twice before. But this week it happened twice in one day.
I'm going to clean the sensors and hope for the best
I haven't heard of it yet. I had the module out of my xj6 twice. The first time I disconnected the lines because the screws hold the module to hydraulic block were so tight that I was afraid of stripping the heads.
In the future post on the X300 forum for XJ6 1995-1997.
I know it is now June of 2020, but this is the first time I have had to deal with this issue myself. I flip these generation Jaguars one at a time and do all of my own work if at all possible. I was able to get the module out, re-flow the solder and added a tiny amount and re-installed and the light is out now. Whew! The brake lines bent easily enough after taking out all the screws and bolts holding the whole assembly in place, giving freedom to lift it up and move it around. Job done! So grateful to those who have done this before and provided instructions. I knew exactly how to do it from the get-go. The only recommendation I can add is that if you are doing this job on the XJ8 model, take the time to remove the driver's headlamp assembly (grille and light trim also must come off) and you have MUCH more access to the unit to unbolt and maneuver around to get the job done.
Thanks to the author for the writeup, I just did this repair.
Looking back there is one thing I would do differently - instead of trying to open the box I would "melt" a hole on top of the connector with help of one of those "hot pipe" solder guns that are used to refill laser printer toners (I think using hot half inch coper pipe would do too). Solder contact through the hole and then cover the hole with tape.
