ABS replacement *Time critical*
My car: 2003 XJ8 Vanden Plas
I just got a quote for $3500 :
-ABS module replacement (it was stolen, along with link leads)
-Link lead
-Brake light switch
Also:
$732 - Cam cover gaskets leak
$438 - Oil coolant bypass leak
What are my options here? I realize that this is a safety issue that I need to have taken care of, but do I really need to cough up this amount or is this something I can fix myself?
Thanks in advance!
*I wold like to clarify that the module was not stolen while I was onwer of the car. The car was discounted due to this.

For the valve cover, should take no more than 1.5 hour for BOTH side + cost of gasket.
You can get the ford gasket kit used on the lincoln LS.
FelPro part # VS5072R. $37 at Rockauto
no idea for the oil coolant leak

Do you know of any DIY instructions on replacing the module (or any of the other issues)? I am new to Jags and have not had much experience doing my own maintenance, however I am looking at this as a learning experience.

Do a search for 'abs module repair' or similar, guess what - it's a common problem, hence the theft, whoever pinched it obviously went to the same place as you did get a quote!
It's also not hard to replace, just a bit fiddly. Are the brake lines undisturbed? Bleeding can be another job all together.
Seriously, I can supply an abs module (checked and repaired if necessary) and link leads for a fraction of that from my spare parts . Your quote must be Jaguar Main agent new price, with no discounting.

Did you get this car recently? You will soon learn, if you haven't already, that all dealers and many independent shops figure that, if you drive a Jaguar, you must have a lot of money. Doing even small jobs can save you a bundle. Replacing this module is not too hard a job, even including bleeding the brakes afterwards. But will be tough to do until Spring if you don't have a heated garage space.

Second mission, and this will take at least two weeks ... start at the earliest thread in the section and read forwards in time.
