AC Works So Well That Car Is Freezing
Hello,
My XJR 2000 cabin's AC is a single-zone system. Occasionally (but not always), it blows only cold air no matter what temperature I set the thermostat to. The system has an Auto function so I want to be clear that whether Auto is on or off and AC is on, this cold-air-only situation occurs even though Auto does indeed throttle the fan speed as I change the temperature setting. Also, there are buttons that specify through which vents the air flows (I'm not sure what those are called--but they direct air to only the head, head and feet, or just feet, for instance) and if I change those, I still get the cold-air-only situation even though air is shifted to the indicated vents--so the vent-control switches are working. The thermostat goes to "hi" at the high end and "Lo" at the low end and when I'm have the cold-air-only condition, even "hi" produces cold air. I have also used the front defrost switch, which works, but it doesn't change the cold-air-only condition.
The car is to full operating temperature when this occurs and the outside temp has been around 85-F.
Because this is an *intermittent* problem, I wonder what might be the root cause? I have explored other forum postings but the answers posted didn't help me or were not for my vehicle.
If you know of this condition kindly suggest a part number and please give some guidance regarding whether that part is (or parts are) easy to replace.
Many thanks!
