Default acceleration question

I have a 99 XJR and have issues when I try accelerating at full throttle. If I completely "floor it" the RPMs will shoot up just like you would expect when flooring it, but the car does not accelerate like it should--it just slowly speeds up until it shifts gears then it starts to accelerate like it should.
There is no grinding in the gears and it always shifts smoothly. In normal situations it accelerates just fine. The only time it has issues is when I try to "floor it."
Is my clutch going out?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Joe

hi joe , sure sounds like an issue with the torque converter. Does anyone know the stall speed of those? (While stripped, foot on Break and floor It. Should be around 2200 rpm? No more than 10s!)

check transmission fluid color smell

Tranny fluid should be dark red and should not smell burnt...I have a similar issue occasionally with acceleration...engine revs but car moves later..

Yeah I think I will do a transmission flush. I know it has never been done and I have over 100K miles so I think it is probably time. Thanks to this forum, I have read all up about it and plan on doing it myself. I have never done this before but one of the many reasons why I bought this car is to learn more about cars and to dink around with repairs by myself.

I did a trans fluid change on my 99 xjr a few months back, the tranny doesn't have a dip stick. if you want to check it you'll need to get on on ebay for around 40 bucks. also the fluid from the dealer is very expensive,
47 dollars a liter, the tranny takes up to 8 liters, I found the mercedes fluid on ebay for about $12 a liter, got the filter and gasket at napa for about 30 bucks. I didn't buy a dip stick just dropped the pan and on an 99 there is a plug on the converter, let the tranny and converter drain over night, I got 8 liters out. do not, do not, do not use any thing to wipe out the pan.. any lint or anything like that will cause your tranny to fail just wash it out and let it air dry, check the old fluid to see if any metal is in it, if not your good to go. I measured the amount that came out and put back the same amount have about 15k on it since the change without any problems. you might consider changing the supercharger and rear end fluids also. the supercharger eaton m112 gen 4 uses a special oil and you can find a good deal on ebay as well, I bought 8oz bottle with a vacum to take out the old and put in the new. I used the vacum to remove the fluid out of the rear end and used wenn syn gear oil with a friction modifier.
