Default Advice needed for which slotted front rotors to buy

I'm not yet interested in upgrading to the bremo brakes or other.

2000 XJR

Now that the car accelerates like something from the movie SpaceBalls, I want to upgrade a little on the brakes.

I do not road race this car, just a daily driver, so not a lot of repeated hard stops expected.

I've got and really like the Akebono pads. Dot 4 fluid. I'll be swapping to braided stainless lines at the same time.

I will be extending the brake ducts from the vents in the fender well via flexible silicon brake duct tube to closer to the rotors for some better cooling effect.

I am thinking slotted vented (NOT cross drilled, since I'm not interested in cracked rotors).... The question is which ones?

At the moment I've seen these:

Dimpled and slotted EBC EBC Brake Rotors - 3GD Sport Rotors JAGUAR XK8 BASE 2000 - 2002 4.0 GD954

and these Power Slot Slotted Brake Rotors | Power Slot Performance Slotted Rotors

Any other suggestions that won't break the bank?

Whatever rotors you use be sure that they are cryotreated. Some manufacturers do that and others do it and don't tell you.
Cryogenic treating will stabilize the discs and should eliminate cracking and warpage, also the discs will tend to radiate heat better. Good luck. Bob

This probably won't help but it's interesting nontheless,
http://www.alcon.co.uk/download/know...roovediscs.pdf
fitted these this year and dare I say it, they're better than plain. I'm not impressed with drilled discs, we did a research program at university on our brake dyno, simple fact is drilled discs have less braking area, sod heat and dust they're not as good as plain, but the half moon or crescent are another level. Impressive, if you can get single piece discs with this pattern you'll like them. Another trick is get 355mm rotors, machine the front calipers to accept 32mm width discs and a 10mm adaptor to push the caliper out radially for more braking area and better heat dissipation. That might be cheaper than a pair of Brembos for the front, or not...

Thanks for the info Sean,
I'm not sure if those would be any better than the EBC slotted and dimpled though. I know I want to do something better than plain.

Default What rotors should I buy?

How did you like the rotors? I have the same issue. Don't know which ones to buy, but I dont want stock. I've seen a bunch of rotors on ebay but the prices seem to good to be true. Not a daily driver, but I still want something that looks good and performs well at a reasonable price. Help!

I have fitted EBCs a few times, they work well, I don't bother with the green or red stuff pads but use the Ferodo racing

Here's a pic of an XKR I did, same setup as the XJR, also it is worth to shop around, you can actually get these for a reasonable price, even the site you listed is not the cheapest

One thing I do no like about these is they make quite a bit of wind noise compared to the solid disks. So much so I would not do these again.

Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions/opinions on brake disks, as I'm about to order a set myself.

So far I've checked my usual two suppliers, FCPEuro and SNG Barratt, and both are around US$100-120, plus about the same again for postage.
Next step is to ring a few local brake specialists, and see if they can do any better

Depends what you are after, something a bit different then you will pay more, however I just replaced a set of standard XJR rotors and they cost $50 for a pair of fronts.....

I only paid $80 for a full set but these are only Apec items, very cheap

in extend of the topic, upgrading to steel brake line will improve the performance, I did , and you could tell the difference instantly

I replaced my rotors (front and back) not that long ago. Got the "cheap" ones on EBay (APEC or the like) - I think around $40 a piece shipment included. They seem just fine for the daily "normal" driving. The biggest improvement I got though was replacing my previously installed "cheap" front pads with something a little more serious (semi metallic thermo-quiet). Besides braking quality, my goal was getting rid of squeeeeeking braking noise as well. The better pads -added to a good greasing of the caliper guide bolts - did the trick.

Cheers

I also upgraded to the stainless brakes lines and noticed an instant improvement.

Well worth it.

Looks like standard rotors is the way to go. I could upgrade to EBC's but it's looking like a very expensive exercise for little gain.
I'm a bit worried that all of the options I've found are 'aftermarket' disks, not original or OEM, but hey, if they're making brake disks they must know what they're doing... right?

Would be keen to find out more about stainless lines though. Are there specific aftermarket kits, or can you use generic parts?

I didn't get the brake line over ebay, but some other site. I remembered so vividly that took me over 2 weeks to receive the brake-line. I thought it was shipping delay from the seller. but they told me they had to back-order from goodridge because they didn't stock it the brake line for XJR(as always,XJR is a rare car) and had to assemble one for my order

I actually did my own grooved discs...... I am not a fan of drilled brembos, look cool but high maintenance, and when I did these nobody did anything like them
