Default Aftermarket alarm question?

Second post here..im wondering if anyone has a aftermarket alarm system on their jag?

I am trying to find someone to install a python 991 system with a tilt sensor, audio glass sensor, and backup battery system on my jag and noone wants to do it. Anyone have any input on who will install this for me?

I found one place in az so far and they wanted 400 for the install which seems quite high to me..what should i look to pay for the install? Thansk

I'm interested too. I own and '85 XJ6 and the alarm that came with the car is almost more of a hassle than it is worth. I'm thinking about upgrading to something more current.

thanks

I think the issue with installation is the depth to which the jag uses the CAN bus and individual processor modules for digital interconnectivity of all of its subsystems... it's just not wired like a 'normal' car. For example, trying to add the door lock/unlock function of the alarm would require interfacing to 4 Door Processor Modules or, perhaps to the Body Control Module... just not you're average install!

All this Jag complexity makes it not very receptive to the simple (read normal, what they're used to) addition of an aftermarket alarm that is designed for the average car with 'analog' systems and interfaces - In addition, the small number of Jags on the road that have added alarms makes the process, for most installers, unusual and untried. it will scare most of them off and, for those that are willing, allow them to charge a high premium.

With this in mind, IMO, $300 to $400 is not out of the ballpark. For those installers that are willing, they'll charge what the market will bear. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Up to you.

Of course, you have the option of studying up on the electrical diagrams for your Jag, find the alarm that will fit it most readily, and install it yourself... this would make a great post for the forum that many, I'm sure, would appreciate.

Very good post! thank you for your input.

I am at a tough decision point. I do want to protect my 2500 rims and tires, but at the same time I am afraid a bad install will completely destroy my jags electrical system and noone around me in AZ has felt confident doing the install.

Best way to protect your $2500 rims and tires is to park inside or in well lit places, backed up with ample insurance, IMO.
