Air Flow Sensor Problem?

Jag Forum Members,
First, I would like to say that I have been visiting this site over the past 2 years and have been very impressed with the postings and comrodarity of members.
I just recently sold a 2002 X-Type recently and purchased a 1999 XJR. The X-Type only had 37,000 miles on it but I saw an XJR I just had to have. The engine in the XJR was rebuilt in '04 and have been told that the Timing Chain issues were resolved by then. The only problem I'm experiencing right now is a choppy acceleration from a stop. It feels as if the I werefully pressing the gas and then letting up on it, causing a very jerky acceleration till about 25ish MPH. I've seen some posts regarding the MAF Sensor and was wondering if anyone has ever replaced one and if it is something a slightly novice mechanic can do? Prior to purchasing the car the codes indicated that the system had some pending codes regarding the Air System but figured that the battery had been changed recently causing some eronous codes like stray voltage etc. Car drove fine for about the first 1.5 weeks I had it and now it is acting strange. I'm all ears for any advice.

I would get the car ECU scanned in real time to check the sensors. Since the MAF is a $600 part new, you will wantto be sure it is the fault before replacing. Choppy accleration is more likely to be a gummy fuel or airfilter, low fuel pressure, fuel contaminationor another fueling problem. The MAF is a mixture controller, it might cause this symptom but it would be unusual.
