Airbag light, code B1342, does module need reprogramming?
I have a 2003 XJ8 with a constant airbag light. After doing all of the online suggested fixes, I tood it to Victor's Jaguar in San Antonio. They specialize in Jags and have a very impressive shop!
After scanning the car, he told me the module is bad, code B1342. I've removed the current module, cleaned the pins and connector with electronics spray and made sure there was no corrosion at the grounding points. I still have the light.
The module, HNC9666AD, is readily available online, but I would like some guidance from a Jag owner or mechanic. On the module, there is the part number, and a long number just above a bar code. I've attached a photo of one currently for sale on ebay.
Here's what I need help with:
1. Is the long number above the bar code critical, and needs to be matched with another module, or is that just the serial number for that unit? All of the parts I've seen have the same part number, HNC9666AD, but the other number is different.
2. Will a different module need to be reprogrammed, or can I just replace my module with another one with the same part number?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Thanks for the link to the service manual. I think it will give me a lot of guidance.
As for the code, I was told by a Jaguar repair shop that the code means the SRS module has failed. As far as I know, the car has never been in a wreck. I have ordered a module off of ebay, and will swap them out. I also noticed the part number, HNC9666AD, seems to be replaced by HNC9666AE.
Are you recommending a different course of action other than swapping out the module?
