Thanks-I tried something like that. Made two hooks fitting the recess behind the reluctor and fixed it to a sliding hammer. No luck...added heat to the cam with a inductionheater. The result is a not to nice reluctor eternally stuck to the scrap camshaft.
Is it a possible idea to grind off the irrelevant tabs on a AJ27 cam?

It would certainly be a possible solution if one of the 4 tabs happens to be at the exact same position as the single tab on the AJ26 reluctor.

That method is quite different from what I did. Hooks and a slide hammer will not create as much separating (pulling) force onto the reluctor as will a wedge, especially a narrower angled wedge, driven into the spaces between the cam body and the reluctor. I can't remember exactly, but I probably also used a knife blade (very small angle wedge) and hammered it in-between once the cam-reluctor gap opened up a bit.

If you were not a half-a-world away I would just send you a spare AJ26 intake cam via USPS.
Any 'B'bank intake cam from an AJ26 Jaguar engine will work but you will likely have to set the valve lash if you swap cams.

Thanks-a very nice offer-will try the wedge thing first and if that fails I will buy Your spare.

Thumbs up Update-Finally the engine runs again

Thanks to all for the guidance during the long resurrection of the XJR.
Just swapping of the torque converter flexplate remains before total success.

Default Gearbox AJ27/AJ26

Will the gearbox that came with the AJ27 work with the AJ26 ECU after swapping the flexplate or do I have to use the gearbox from the AJ26?

I have installed a 1998 XJ8 gearbox (ZF 5HP24) into a 2001 XJ8 so they really don't care what car they are installed. Just keep the original TCM in the car.

Transmissions usually don't care as long as the cuffs and collars match.

Thanks for input-lets hope the AJ26 ECU tolerates the AJ27 AMG gearbox
