I originally had an ecu remapped by Paramount - when I did the rebuild I looked into getting the new one done. The guys I contacted 'flashremapping' use Viezu files....they contacted the guy who used to work for Paramount to locate the file, turned out the 4.0 files where 'unstable' and couldn't do it....if only the 4.2 ECU's where compatible as they're a much better unit for re-mapping. I don't know of any in the USA but I'll bet they use Viezu?
If you look in the boot your ECU will be listed on the VCATS list. Something like LNG1410AD

I'm trying to figure out if any other car uses the AJ26 ECU.

Custom engine management is the route then - I doubt Jaguar/Ford used the ecu for other applications, just XJR/XKR.
Maybe a Tech3/Visteon/AEM/r2g2 type system, then a manual gearbox is easy, and no issues with ratio's. Just the BCM to defeat via the box I mentioned.
How far do you want to develop the car?

Eurotoys is maybe the only(? ) one which offers ECU tunes for our X308 Denso ( Denso LNC1410CA in MY99 S/C )ECUs at the moment: Jaguar XJR ECU Tuning Upgrade 4.0L S/C 98-03 . I wanted to keep the orginal one as untouchable and added Arden's additional ECU ( dont' ask the price : ) . Not sure which one is better....

Adam, do you still have your stock XJ exhaust for sale? Please shoot me an email and let me know either way at:

The AJ26 and AJ27 ECU are both Denso units. They're also both 16 bit while the AJ33 4.2 is 32 bit. The early AJ33 4.2 is a air flow based calibration while the later ones are torque based.
Be thankful that the AJ26 unit ISN'T torque based as it only makes things alot harder to remap.
I would be happy to help remap your car for you. I know a vehicle chassis dyno in the western chicagoland area and was involved in some of the mapping of the original cars.

Question for the Count;
Could you explain in a little more detail about the ECU for the AJ33? Where is the cutoff for early & later models with the airflow/torque based calibration? Is AJ33 airflow and AJ34 torque? When was the changeover from AJ33 to AJ34?
I've been in contact with several tuners in the UK about tuning my '05 XJR, everyone seems to point back towards the Alientech J-Tag or K-Tag devices, as a "must" for tuning the Denso ECU, but unsurprisingly nobody i've spoken to has actually done an XJR....
From what you've mentioned here there might be another way for the AJ33?

In theory all can be done, you just need some sort of piggy back controller. My original plan was to use and adapt unichip. After you have access to the appropriate variables you just need a sensible methodology to map and access to a dyno (I use some friends in Plainfield) making sure you know enough about engines to put a sensible range of values in.
I appologise that I haven't responded or been available recently.

We've had to lay people off and there have been big changes. I've been focusing on this and the Jag lays dormant in my garage with the new 15 HU project diff in pieces in a box ( I still need to get the old crown wheel out).
I even paid someone to change the timing chain on my M88/3 BMW M6.![Icon Warped](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_warped.gif)
I'm not sure when I'll be able to get back into Jags. Take care
