Default Am I losing my mind? Start car, windshield wiper turns on

Hello Gentlemen:

Many times, when I start my 01 VDP, the windshield wiper turns on and I need to move the stalk to turn it off.

Unless I turn it on somehow physically by moving the stalk after I turn the car off when I last drive it--I don't see possibly how this could occur.

Am I losing my mind? (Wait, don't answer that.)

Thank you,

SirJag

There's a couple of things, the sensor behind the rear view mirror, is it fixed properly to the windshield. Also the stalk wiring, I've seen weird things with the wipers because age and use has split a wire at the switchpack, means replacing the stalk/wiring/connector. Finally the wiring on the motor - guys have peeled the clear sealant and checked the wiring out underneath to fix due to water ingress.

Thanks Sean... I'll check all these things and report back.

One question... you said, "the sensor behind the rear view mirror, is it fixed properly to the windshield."

What is that sensor for, exactly?

Sincerely,
SirJag

That happens to me a lot (start car, wiper turns on), but it's because I accidentally hit the arm and it so easily pops up one notch.

I have not figured out how the trunk/boot opens on occasion, though! Maybe a ghost trying to get out....

When I first got my Jag, my trunk was opening regularly. I finally realized it was my knee on entry/exit hitting the button on the dash ever so lightly.

Not sure what I do different now, but it's stopped.

That's your rain sensor to automatically turn on your wipers when rain is sensed. I believe it "Hears" the rain.
