Default Another remote/key fob thread...

...so the latest from the 98 xj8 is that the keyless entry remotes were lost so I bought a used one from fleabay. When I do the "lights on bright and hold, turn the key...ect, I get the programming mode chirp but the car never recognizes the remote no matter what I push or how many times. Took it to the local auto parts store and the Energizer test stand thingy recognized the button I pushed right away. Any thoughts? I'd think the module must be awake since I get the chirp.

The one on the LEFT is the EARLY.
The one on the RIGHT is the LATER.

When I bought my car, mine didnt work either. The PO said he wasnt sure why. First I replaced the battery, then I found the DIY steps youre referring to. It works great now, but I didnt get it to work on my first try. I did it at least 5 or 6 times before I got it exactly right and it began working properly. Hopefully this helps too

Bob nailed it. No surprise. Looking at his pic I have a late remote and an early car.
