Default Any Ideas on How to Pick a Trunk Lock?

I'm perplexed by this one - The local salvage yard has a 2002 Jaguar XJ8 and I want to buy the SCLM out of it. However, the trunk is locked and cannot be opened. It's obvious someone tried to pry it open and was unsuccessful. I bought a Lisle 8 bite Tibbe lock pick tool as that's what my UK locksmith recommended and thought I could pick the lock. But, when I tried practicing on my own car it acts as if the trunk only has six cylinders as the two barrels nearest the car don't move at all. I can't get my own trunk to open so I have no confidence in my ability once I get to the salvage yard. So, here are my questions?

Am I just no good at this and need to practice more?
Did I buy the wrong tool (do I need a 6 bite tool)?
Is there another way to get the trunk open?

Thanks all.

If the salvage yard has a key, spray a lubricant in the lock cylinder and use a black key (not the green valet key) to work the lubricant into the tumblers and hopefully unfreeze the lock assembly. I however cannot tell you how to use a lock picking set. Somewhere on this forum has a location to drill a hole to unlatch the lock. Take a hole saw to the junkyard trunk lid??

The 4 slots on the trunk license plate attach point if you take the center of these slots and mark a X through them with the center of the X locating the center of the trunk as a whole

This can be done by just taping a piece of paper on the trunk so you can mark it

Drill a hole in the center of the X so you can stick a round shafted Philips screwdriver in

move the handle to the car''s left and you will snag the lock lever to open the trunk

Hi All,

I located the earlier post with this attached diagram. It indicates I may not have to cut a hole? If I do it's no loss as the trunk lid is destroyed already. Thanks for the help.

Just drill a hole big enough to put the screwdriver shaft in

There are better pics coming as I did it myself

You will be moving the lever to the car's right so the screwdriver handle goes to the left

Is it out of question to feed power from the engine bay and open the boot via button at the dash ?

This would work as long as the positive battery cable is not laying in the battery tray causing a eerie blue glow from the trunk deformed edges

Trunk was never opened after the crash so it is probably still connected

Is there any access from the interior through the back seat . There may be an interior trunk release handle that may be accessible through the back seat area. Seems like the XKRs have a yellow handle in the interior trunk ( boot) lid that might be used.

Behind the back seat is the fuel tank.

I can open my trunk with a 8 cut Tibbe pick, Lishi to be exact, no issues. If you know the basics of lockpicking at all you should be good. Easier than disc detainer, a little harder than a wafer.

The positions that don't move may be because they are at their highest cut. Lockpickinglawyer has a good video on using a Tibbe pick and decoder. This is a 6 position but covers it well
