Looks like a pretty good deal. I stalk craigslist here in Okc. I usually dont see anything newer than '00 with 75k or below for less than $8500.

If it is as described I wish I was a lot closer.

A 2000 will need all the x308 upgrades. If he really is the original owner and did all the maintenance on time ... this could be a great car.

The wood does show signs of being in the sun.

BUT .....You can't buy one of these without an inspection -- even with a lot of records.

Actually, I'm looking at it today. I'll let you know how it goes. I'd better research those X308 upgrades too.

Thanks, everyone.

The wood issue yeldogt referred to is a factory problem that surfaced in the '00 MY. Looks like a little milk was added to the clear finish. Jaguar replaced a lot of dashes free but no longer does that. Only fix is a complete refinish for about $1500.

The most critical 'upgrade' is the replacement of the plastic cam chain tensioners. If you cannot determine that this has been done you absolutely must replace the original plastic ones ASAP. That means immediately. Penalty for a failed tensioner is a replacement engine. If the owner cannot verify that this has been done you have a $1200 negotiating point ($800 at an independent, $200 DIY).

See the FAQ sticky above for a complete check list of inspection items.

Thank you test point. I'm on it. I had heard of this, but wasn't sure what years were affected. Do 2002 MY have the upgraded guide?

Jaguar did have some issues regarding the wood on cars that had sun exposure - and they did fix a lot of them. But -- it required the sun .... so look to make sure the car does not have any paint or interior issues from sun exposure.

The 2000 will need to have had its water pump replaced - tensioners etc.

The original owners of these cars had the funds to buy and maintain them -- and so are often great cars to purchase. They also normally have garages.

Most of the guy's I know keep records -- the white ones are often exceptions to this.

Why are people such liars? Not the original owner, no records, car was a bit of a pig.... Car wasn't even registered.

Looked at an '02 with 83k. ABS and coolant level lights on, 'computer' whirring in the background. No records of chain tensioner guides.

Did see a '99 with 70k in a closed used car lot. Matching VINs, wood perfect, will go back tomorrow and check it out.

Someone get this guy a bucket of water!

There are lots of cars out there. You will be rewarded by taking your time and finding a jewel hiding in someone's garage with 28k miles. Lurk on all the eBay, Craigs List, AutoTrader, et. al. for months if it takes it.
