Default Any way to tell if my tensioners have been done?

Hello gang! My first post.
Just bought a 2000 XJR and wondering if the timing chain tensioners have
been replaced. Any way to tell?
I have the service book and it shows the service stamps in the back
Came from Napeltons in IL.
65k mile car. It is mint clean. This is my 7th Jag and have loved them all but this one
ROCKS!
Thanks
Ted

Only way to tell is to take front cover off engine, (not recommended) or to go to dealer that serviced it and ask them to pull history and see if ever done. Honestly I have done far fewer s/c tensioners than n/a.

Thanks,
I am in FL, guess I can call the dealer that serviced it up in IL tomorrow.
Is there a national data base to see if the dealer in FL ever serviced it?

I sopke to 2 Jag dealerships today, they are telling me the same as you did.
They cant remrber ever doing an XJR timing tensioner........They are also telling me that
the XJR engine is built a little more sturdy than the non supercharged engine...any
truth in that?

Should I just not worry about it and drive it and change the oil regulary?
Maybe keep my ear out for the tell tail noise??

the engines due last longer due to not having VVT.. i would keep driving it and just have a listen in the mornings once and a while to hear a rattle on start up.. usually in the winter time..

Well before you attempt it, I hope you made note of the special tools needed. If you don't use them you will be in a world of hurt when it comes to starting car.
