Default Anyone ever 4.0 S/C swapped a Vanden Plas?

I think it would be cool to have a Vanden Plas with an XJR supercharged engine. Has anyone done it?

Question Early April 1st?

... uhmm, yes, it's been done.

Company called "Jaguar" created Vanden Plas Supercharged cars. More than just an XJR engine, was essentially entire XJR drivetrain in a VDP. Or think of an 'XJRL' with VDP trim.

In X308 era had very low production numbers. I believe it was considered a 'trim option'. Only identifiers in early years is the word "Supercharged" on tach face and under "Vanden Plas" on rear badge. Easy to miss.

Later became own model, I believe as a "Super".

i knew about the super V8. I guess i should rephrase my question. Has anyone ever taken a 98-99 Vanden Plas with a trashed nikasil motor and swapped in an S/C as a replacement?

I'm not aware of anyone doing this on the forum, and for good reason. It's not just the engine we're talking about here it's the car's whole electronic system.
To carry out this swap all the SC car's modules and looms need to be carried over, which means stripping two cars down to the bare shell and installing the lot. Then the engine, trans, fuel tank modules etc installed - then the suspension needs switching over along with the brakes and the car reassembled. It's months of work for a seasoned tech who knows what to do, with someone who doesn't, I could see a half abandoned project as it gets too deep.

Basically, it isn't just 'an engine swap'. They work on completely different architecture.

This is why you don't see supercharged engine swaps in general. Plus there are still plenty of SC'd VDP's/SuperV8's out there, at reasonable prices, it's usually easier and cheaper to just buy the car you want, than it is to modify one.

Was just curious. Not saying it would be easy or practical etc. Obviously the electronics aren't compatible between cars.
