Ashtray lid is broken.

Ashtray lid is broken.
Now that my unmetred air problem is sorted, (No more CEL!... yet)
I can now move on to my stupid ashtray lid. It feels as though it is off the rails, and it will not close properly. The 'spring' mechanism will not let it smoothly shift from open to closed. I got it back on the rails forcibly, recently, and it locked closed, slightly off-kilter, and I had to force it open again to access my car's (lone) cigarette lighter.
I searched around, but never got any results. Anyone know this problem?
I have had the console apart, and couldn't access the mechanicals.
I'm guessing I may have to leave this in its broken state, in case it requires removing the entire centre console.
Thanks,
Ian

You need to take out the center console and turn it upside down and you will have all the access you need...you should probably buy some spare parts before removing it as it is a time consuming job...follow the JTIS and watch the wood as plastic so you don't damage anything...once you have access to it should be really easy to fix...also make sure the center console wires don't get in the way of the ashtray closing when you put everything back together
