Battery Recomendation

Our X308s are very, very finicky when it comes to electrical power. So I just go for the largest battery that will fit in the boot! Currently mine is rated for a start / stop kind of engine. Keep those volts at 12 minimum!
When not using the car, I have it on trickle charge permanently with a CTEC trickle charge hooked up via a permanent wire/connector to the battery. I.e. plug and play set up.

I got the Max Ever Start that Carnival Kid suggested. THX It came with a vent elbow but I can't locate the vent hole in the in the battery. (small issue)
The big issue, the car cranks fine now but will not start. The car was parked outside for a week or so and I found a huge rodent nest in the compartment under the power brake mechanism. I hope they didn't chew wires. My work is cut out for me. I'll probably be seeking advice.
Note. Knowing that rodents are smart and imitative, I checked my other xj8 and found a nest in the exact same location. You may want to remove the cover and check your cars.

some run standard batteries with no problems, some use battery tenders and some like me has them lasting 3 years at most. get AGM of some reputable brand and you will forget about it for years to come, and of course entertain yourself with King Charles link where we discussed battery topic quite exhaustively

Hello Jaguar Men,
New Battery is installed. The Ever Max battery came with battery venting hardware but I can't locate the vent hole coming from the battery. The old battery was connected to the vent tube but there is some corrosion in floor under the battery. Put a piece of 1/8 inch thick wood paneling under the battery to protect the floor.
Does anyone see any problems with doing that?
I did get the car started after cranking in and pumping the gas pedal and holding it down in frustration. I think the problem was condensation water in the gas tank. It runs great. BUT:
I get codes p1396 , for Variable valve timing Solenoid A and B. I cleared it but it immediately comes back. I'm doing research but probably will be seeking advice.
Thanks for the help, jeffxj8

if car was ok before battery problem then perhaps need some running, higher temp outside or maybe oil change, if all obvious fails then technical bulletin will give you some ideas, if you taking valve covers off (as per bulletin) check if camshaft flats are in parallel and in correct position in relation to flywheel plug, you may have problem there

Hey Jeff, looks like a PO let a battery corrode, hard to say. Get some rust inhibitor paint from one of the box stores. Thoroughly clean the area, be sure to get the scaling off with a wire brush, then tape it off and spray it following the instructions. Recommend doing it the night before, this way in the morning you can finish up.
Then if you like, spray with a desired color. Wood is not a good item with metal outside, because untreated wood draws and holds moisture, ...hence the moisture stain on the end of that panel. The corrosion doesn't appear too bad, shouldn't take but a couple hours, mostly waiting for the paint to dry.
For the 1396, check the connectors for possible bared wire, broken/cracked connector, loose connector. Hopefully your tenants haven't ruined any wiring.

Thanks fellas, lots to think about.
The p1396 came up before (and after)I changed the battery / rodents moved in.
I didn't feel 100 percent good about putting the wood under the battery.
Thx, high horse for the technical data. Thx xjack. Im gonna have to do some research to completely understand the suggestions. Jeroen, I did a Google maps walking tour of your town I didnt see any Jaguars but I did see a beautiful bike path.
Thx again fellas, I hope to get on it but I have got some non Jag distractions to deal with first.
