Default Best online source for parts

I'm relatively new to the forum. I've been reviewing for a while now and you all seem to have a pretty good handle on things. I bought my wife a 01 XJ8 back in October with a few minor issues, but a road trip after Christmas resulted in the telltale knock of a failing Timing Chain Tensioner. Nothing's slipped, so the car's been parked while I did a bit of research on the parts and tools to get it all swapped out. To be honest, trying to review the various sites out there to compare part costs has just about driven me nuts. They are all laid out differently and I'm finding a variety of parts scattered all over the place. I'm sure that many of you have already figured out which are worth the effort. As such I'm open to input on who's treated you right and where I should be directing my attention.

Everything you ever wanted to know about replacing the tensioners:

Check through these and maybe we can help with any specific question you may have. Changing the secondary tensioners is not difficult.

What about for used or salvage parts?

I need a rear deck sub-woofer for my 1998 vdp. Is it worth going through a salvage or parts place or is this something I should bite the bullet on and buy it from the dealer? What's the best way to find/buy one of these?

thanks!

I have never once found anywhere online that can beat the prices you can find on eBay.

Hi
Here are 3 forum threads on the cam tensioners problems, fixes, and costs:
1st one is how to check timing chain: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=32670

Next is Secondary Chain Replacement: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=46305

Last is Timing Chains and chains tensioners & the tools rental:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...d.php?p=244467

There is a lot of infomation on this forum about the Timing chain tensioners.
All of it is very good stuff.

Thanks to all that have replied. I've been a member of a Miata and BMW forum for some time. After finding the XJ8 this past fall I immediately went looking for a Jaguar forum and found this one. I've had a few of the issues typical to the 01, and have yet to miss getting some direction and insight on them from you guys and gals. As you might guess, I'm not shy about diving under a hood, but it's always nice to have an idea of what you're about to dive into. I'm sure that at some point each of you was in my place (no hands on knowledge of a yet again new vehicle), and hopefully as time goes on I'll be able to return the favor and provide some insight for you or future newbies.
