Default Best Place To Buy Brake Rotors & Pads

Can anyone suggest the best place to purchase brake rotors and pads online? I'm looking for slotted rotors and performance pads for my 2000 XJR.

On a different note, what eactly is the "performance package" that some cars came with, and how do I know if I have it?

Thanks,
Brian

Have you tried our vendors? Gotta be worth giving them a go......
Nalleyjaguarparts
ken@britishparts
Jpamparts

Don't forget to look into EBC direct online for their slotted discs and ceramic pads

Smile Performance package

Hi TN8Shooter,
As I understand it, the performance package consists of

8.5" x 18" BBS wheels and Brembo cross-drilled rotors and calipers.
The rotors are 355mm x 32mm.

standard XJR rotors are 325mm x 28mm

standard XJ8 rotors are 305mm x 28mm.

those rotor sizes are from JTIS.

This is what the performance package (R Performance) Looks like.

Someone jump in and correct me if I missed something.
Thanks.

Thanks for the information. I was not aware that a separate package was available for the "R". Thanks a million.

I forgot to include the dimensions for the rear brakes.

From JTIS-

XJR with R performance package The rotors are 330mm x 28mm.

XJ8/XJR The rotors are 305mm x 20mm.

Hope this helps.

EBC brakes are the way to go, I have redstuff pads on my XJR and they work great, a lot less brake dust than original pads as well.

I went with EBC REDstuff pads married to slotted rotors ( discs ) for my X type a few years back as have many here I believe. Great stopping power and reduced dust too.

I'm considering the purchase of an 03 XJR with the R Performance package. The car needs an brake job and a set of cheaper rotors cost about $950. A set of factory rotors cost about $1500. WTF?

That sounds about right. Call CarQuest Auto Parts if they are in your area or go on line to www.welshent.com for reasonable price checks. If CarQuest is in your area you could save on shipping. My CarQuest outlet had them in stock and thats in a small town in central Florida.
Go figure. IAB

One of the threads has a great deal on r1 rotors....search for it. And 1500 would have been a deal three years ago. They were 3k in 2006...

I am certainly no expert on different models, but I don't think the R1 brakes were available until 2002 on the 100th anniversery model. My 1999 does not have them, and my 2003 does, but many 2003 models do not. I just don't think the xjr had them outside of 2002 and 2003. The xkr had them in more years, but I would be suprised if you had them. Do the rotors you have have holes drilled in them? Is the caliper painted gray with the word jaguar on it?

John may be right on when the Brembo package was introduced. I think it may have been in '01, but either way, you will know right away if you simply look at your rotors. The brembo's are as John stated drilled / slotted rotors. The non-brembo's are not. If you don't have the brembo's you have rotors that are 325mm. I just bought rotors from autoanything.com along with Hawk pads.

Just have a look at your rotor's and calipers and you will have your answer.

If I am not mistaken Brembo makes the standard brakes for the XJR - Brembo makes brake parts for a lot of cars. I can not remember what the rotors say on them. I am still on the original rotors - second set of pads - so its been a while since I looked at them

The special package were larger rotors and I believe the calipers were - 6 piston units similar to those on Porsche -- may even be 8 piston.

I say this because just because you see Brembo on some parts does not necessarily translate to the package. I believe they only made one style of rim that will even fit over the front brakes - the standard XJR rims will not fit.

And I remember that some 01 R's had the package - I remember looking at one that had the package but no CATS

That is a really good price on front rotors. I am guessing that the Eurospare brand is made in China. Not that anything is wrong with that, but at least it seems they sell them in matched pairs in an attempt to keep brake systems balanced at the axels.
Partsgeeks are selling the rear Eurospare rotors for a good deal too with cheap shipping. I will probably get PBR Metal Master pads from them too.

I have found that sticking to the OE setup provides the best overall performance. The manufacturer picked them for a reason. Often going to a harder pad to cut down on the dust just results in decreased rotor life.

This has been an ongoing situation with Mercedes Benz - people are always looking for a harder pad to cut down on the dust and the end up with noise and rotor replacement.

Considering the cost of the OEM rotors I would not use any from China.

Does that mean that you find the cost ($1630 at the dealer) reasonable?

This thread has jumped around a bit.

The original poster was speaking about getting slotted rotors - since the upgraded brakes had drilled rotors and he has an 00 - I assumed he did not have the upgrade. The thread then blended between the two types of brakes.

My comment was a general brake one regarding the standard XJR brakes that the original poster has. OEM refers to a part made by a company that was in the pipeline for the part verses OE that will have an actual Jaguar part number.

The price difference between the former and aftermarket to me make little economic sense.

As to the upgraded brakes -- I do remember seeing recently a price of $750.00 from a company that supplies only OEM parts. So to the best of my knowledge this would eliminate a chinese manufacturer. So between $500 for the asian import and $750.00 for the OEM - I would have to get the $750/s

It comes down to "if you want to play -- you got to pay" situation when speaking about some cars.
