Default Best way to reattach fender emblem?

I noticed the fender emblem was lose on my XJR. One of the tabs on the back, designed to hold it into the quarter panel, had broken. It was only a matter of time before it fell off in traffic so I went ahead and pulled it out. But now I have a hole in the side of my car.

I'm now debating if I should buy a new one like this for $35, or if I can reattach it with some adhesive without doing any damage to the paint.

Has anyone else had this issue? If anyone believes adhesive is the way to go, can you recommend one that won't harm the finish?

Thanks,

Hi there, I'd suggest that 3m Double sided tape or those double sided strips as used for attaching number plates would do the job, very easily.

I've re attached a few emblems recently and all had this on the rear after removing the cover strip.

I use it to attach number plates to both the front and rear of my cars and have attached / removed many times with no issues.
Taking a little time and patience if you ever need to remove it and you will be fine

Default Adding some pics

The emblem doesn't have much flat space on the back for tape. I'm adding some pictures so you can see what I'm up against.

Can anyone recommend a liquid adhesive that will hold and not damage the paint? It also needs to withstand the vibrations of driving.

Thanks,
Jonathan

A thin bead of construction adhesive around the recess on the fender might do the job, but you really need to get a new emblem since the clip is broken.

I have a pair that I took off to install repeater side lights.

PM me if you are interested in making a deal on them before I put them on the 'bay.

Hello Jonothan, because of their shape on the rear, the best way is to use black RTV silicon.
Applied to back of the badge....not too mush as it will squeeze out everywhewre...just a small bead a litle in fom perimeter and across the back filling in dents....let it strike off for about five minutes and apply in position.
As one of the pegs isbroken, you may need to apply a piece of tape until it sets which will take a couple of hours.
Job done.
Did both of mine a couple of years ago and they are still there ;o)

Automotive GOOP Automotive GOOP
did the job. The label said it worked best with automotive metals and plastics. The adhesive is thicker than honey and does not run at all, unlike the reviews I read about the similar 3M product. I put some on the car, then the emblem, and let them tack up for about 2 minutes, then bonded. I didn't drive the car for about 48 hours so it would set strongly. I've driven the car for about two weeks now and its still strongly affixed.

Thanks for everyone's help.
