I think 285's in theory should fit the rear. If you have to roll the fenders a bit that's not all that bad to do. The front would have me pretty worried. I just have a strong feeling the fronts won't accommodate a 9.5" wheel in any way, shape, or form. Are the C5s not staggered?
My main concern is the hub bore - if the C5 hub bore is smaller, I'd recommend looking around. The E39 BMW has the same size hub bore, and plenty of wheels in fitment for it. Bolt pattern is 5x120, +20mm offset for the E39. I don't know those specs for the Jag, but it might be worth looking into E39 fitment wheels. Since they need to be hubcentric, if your machinist isn't 100% right you'll get a bad wobble, especially on your front wheels. I ran 18x8.5" 255/40s on the front, 18x9.5" 275/35s on the rear of my E39, so you'll get plenty of staggered set ups available for it if you want to try that.

Original ET for the Jag is 33 mm.
Somewhere in this forum I have read about a guy that has BMW wheels fitted, front 9" ET 25 mm and rear 10" ET 20 mm. Original BMW E39 wheels has ET 20 mm. Unfortunately I don't know the ET for Corvette C5. (C6 is 56 mm) You need to check the ET on those rims...! If they are like the C6 wheels it means they would be 56-20-6 = 30 mm closer to the arches compared to those 10" wheels above. (If I am thinking straight here) Compared to, let's say Jaguar Milan rear 9x18, it is 56-33+6 = 29 mm closer to the arches. (Jag Milan are only 8,5 wide in front)
Pretty common to fit E39 wheels on Jags, but there is actually a slight difference in hub bore. At least if you check out the links below, indicating the Jag is 73,9 mm. Some say even 73,8 mm. BMW E39 is 74,1 mm. Probably not a problem since many people do it.

Another difference is the bolt pattern diameter, but not disturbing if you ask me. BMW is 120,0 mm, and Jag is 120,6 mm. I once had a Corvette-89 with BMW wheels fitted - and the Corvette is also 120,6 mm, as I am sure you know.
Personally, I have gotten BMW rims (8,5x19) with ET 35 mm and hub bore 72,5 mm. (Picture posted on my profile) I have had them opened up to 73,9 mm (done by an expert). Haven't used them so far, but I tried to mount them on the car and it was fine. Almost original ET, so I am happy. (There are also some BMW rims with ET 34 mm avaialable)
Btw, on that Corvette I switched the original front 9,5 " wheels for 7,5" to make it ride better. Not always good with wide wheels...
