I posted this in the “What did you do to your X308 today?” thread, but I thought I should also start a new thread to make it a little easier to find. My 2001 XJR’s bonnet liner was rather tattered. Since a new factory one cannot be had, I bought a 65” by 48” by 0.5” batt of hood insulation material from a performance parts house. I removed the old liner and saved the plastic screw rivets. Using the old one as a template, I cut the new material, and just to be safe, I cut about an 18” by 25” piece from some thinner hood insulation I had bought and glued it (using 3M Super 77 spray) to the area directly above the supercharger. I tried to attach the new material with the screw rivets, but quickly found that they pulled through the insulation, so I resorted again to the Super 77. I also found I could repair any defects by cutting and gluing a patch using the spray adhesive.

The result is a definite improvement in appearance, and when I drove the car, it was noticeably quieter. Even better, when I got home, the bonnet was cool to the touch (the ambient temperature was about 80 degrees), except along the edge where the insulation does not reach. My only word of caution is to get it in the right place the first time, because once it touches the bonnet, it adheres—permanently!
