Boot (Trunk) Open, Hard Reset.

Boot (Trunk) Open, Hard Reset.
Hi,
I own a 2001 XJ8 and there is a warning message that says BOOT OPEN in the instrument cluster. So the solution was change the Microswitch in the boot, so I did. The message is still there. Do you think doing a Hard Reset to the battery would clear the message? And how would one do a hard reset?
P.S. the battery has been tested and is in good condition.
Thanks,
Ali

The wires fail from bending and being pulled as the trunk opens/closes -- the insulation shows no damage. You have to test the wires along the length. I had to remove the cover on the back of the trunk. My lights failed and the fault was a few inched down behind the cover.

Very easy --- get one of the cheap multi testers from harbor freight. to test the wires and future use. HF often has coupons where you can get them for free ... and pick up a cheap scanner from them or amazon $30. the two items are invaluable with an old car.
I was able to move the wire loom around and all I did was twist in a short wire splice -- soldered it together and slipped a section of heat shrink tubing. Slip on the heat shrink tubing prior to twisting the wires together. You can get cheap soldering irons with solder for $10. The heat shrink is only a few dollars for a sample pack.
You may be able to have someone push the trunk button as you flex the wires.
