brake rotor wear - does this look right?
do these pics look right...notice the wear line on my front rotors, it looks like my pads are not touching the whole rotor? is this wear line normal? note i have the R1 package on a 2001 XJR, all stock but i am wondering if the wrong pads are on the car...the wear line doesn't look right...any comments?

look ok to me. Can you feel a lip where it changes colour? How much pad is left? If changing the pads, may I suggest OEM, I've found using the ones spec'd by Jaguar to be the quietest on the Brembo system. I've used EBC, Pagid and Ferodo, the Ferodo seem the better pad overall, but I guess availability/cost is a factor.
What does the disc thickness mic up at? (32mm new)
Final question, what pads are you running now and do they squeal?

hey Sean b...I am running what I thought was OEM...and i just had them installed...there is no lip and with the new pads I had new rotors installed...they do still squeak and they seem to clamp down and lock when coming to a stop...I'll find out exactly what make they are...I got them through Britishparts.co.uk

pdog,
The ware pattern looks okay to me. If you had one of your pads in hand you might notice they are "beveled around the edges. This would account for the wear pattern you see. As the pads wear down the untouched part of the disk will start to come in contact with the pad. Some suppliers bevel pads in different ways to aid the bedding in process. You did state this ware pattern presents the same on all wheels?
If, however, there is no beveling on your pads or the ware pattern is different from wheel to wheel - I would look for a misalignment of the brake caliper assby. I had an XJS, back in the day, that had factory shims to get disk to caliper alignment. I note you have after mkt drilled disks? Somebody would have had to R&R the calipers to install them. The disks could be improperly machined or installed. Same goes for the calipers (no shims) ---- but simple stuff first.
Re the brake dust issue - get yourself some ArmorAll wheel protectant or some Eagle One - Keep Clean Wheel. Both work well for 2 or 3 weeks at a time.

@ pdog, I'd make inquiries at Jaguar agents local to you on OEM pad prices, I'm pretty sure they're Ferodo made now, might even be fairly cheap as they're a service item. The Mintex I guess "meet OEM specification" - not sure if Mintex is an OEM supplier.
@Tarheal, good point about the pad bevels. The discs pdog's car's fitted with is an option and bolt straight on. These are *expensive* from Jaguar, but many use aftermarket replacements with no issues.
The Brembo (R) option is fussy about pads in my experience. You can install anti noise shims behind the pad and experiment with different makes of pad until something works for you.
