Default Camshaft cover gaskets

Are the camshaft cover gaskets for the Left and Right bank identical? I ask as I have just bought them from Autohaus and was surprised that they are the same. I have the right cover removed at the moment and the gasket is correct but I haven't removed the left cover yet so cannot tell if the "duplicate" gasket will fit.

i believe they should be different , but part numbers depend on your engine number.

For my '99 XJR they were AJ88285 for the LH cam cover gasket , and AJ88400 for the RH side.

Yes - the part numbers on the packets I received are 8285 and 8400 - just that when I took them out and laid them on the bench they were identical. I was wondering if one of them had been packaged incorrectly. The reason I want to know is that I don't want to remove the left cam cover and then have to wait a week while the part is changed.

Popeye68 and Brutal - many thanks - that's saved me a week with the car laid up - I'll get on to autohaus - thanks again.

Have a close look , the only difference seems to be the placing of the square parts on the gaskets.

Here's a quick pic of mine

I'm now thinking maybe the parts are correct. I've already replaced the right bank cam cover so I can't compare the the two I have got. I think I will go ahead and remove the left bank next week and accept that I may have to wait for a replacement gasket if the part is wrong. BTW - the reason I am doing this is that I have just bought a 2000 VDP and I need to check the tensioners. The right bank is ok - the tensioner has already been done. I could leave the left bank and make the assumption that the tensioner must have been changed as well - I just want to be sure. Thanks for sending the pics - they are helpful. BTW BTW - I see you are in the Netherlands - love Amsterdam - I'm a Brit, so I am familiar with your country.

The pics have it. I have just been into the garage and draped the gasket over the top of the left cam cover and I reckon it will fit - the part looks to be correct after all. Thanks again.
